Handcrafted ceramics made with intention. Every piece carries the warmth of the studio and the quiet precision of slow making.
About the Studio
Carney's Ceramic Studio was born from a simple belief: that the objects we live with every day should carry beauty, purpose, and a human touch.
Located on Linden Street in Ogdensburg, our studio is a space where traditional pottery techniques meet a contemporary sensibility. Each piece is wheel-thrown or hand-built right here — no mass production, no shortcuts.
We work with a small team who share a deep respect for material and process. From the first pull on the wheel to the final glaze firing, every stage is guided by an eye for detail and a commitment to quality that our customers can feel the moment they hold a piece from our studio.
Our Work
Functional ware for daily rituals — mugs, bowls, vessels, and plates — each one unique, each one made to last.
Comfortable handles, weighted bases, and glazes that shift between warm coral and soft terracotta.
Generous forms in durable stoneware, finished with food-safe glazes in charcoal, cream, and slate.
Statement pieces for the shelf or the table — from slender bud vases to wide, sculptural forms.
Set the table with intention. Our dinnerware combines clean geometry with the warmth of handcrafted texture.
Custom commissions are welcome. If you have a specific vision or need a matching set for a special occasion, we'd love to discuss it with you.
Start a conversation →The Process
Every ceramic piece passes through several stages, each one requiring patience and a steady hand.
We begin by wedging the clay to remove air pockets and ensure even consistency. Each project starts with selecting the right body — stoneware for everyday ware, porcelain for finer pieces.
On the wheel, each form takes shape by hand. Centering, pulling, and refining — this is where the essential character of the piece is established.
Pieces dry slowly to a leather-hard state, then are trimmed, refined, and left to dry completely before the first firing.
Our glazes are mixed in-house and layered for depth. Each piece is fired at high temperature, where the chemistry of the glaze transforms into a durable, food-safe surface.
